I have been lucky enough to work in Hexham since I qualified from Newcastle University in 1988. I began working alongside Peter Davidson in St. Marys’s Chare providing all aspects of general dentistry. Upon Peter’s retirement in 1995 I took over the running of the practice and we have been continuing to grow ever since. In 1999 we moved to our present, larger premises on Battle Hill in the heart of Hexham.

Our current team of dental professionals at Battle Hill Dental Practice have been together for over 10 years, give or take the odd spot of maternity leave, providing a real sense of continuity of care for our patients.

Over the past 20 years, as well as happily providing routine dental care for our adult and child patients, my main two dental interests have been developing my knowledge and skill level in orthodontics (tooth straightening in both adults and children) and providing cosmetic treatments to improve our patients’ smiles !

Away from the surgery I’m kept busy ferrying our two children to and from sporting events and friends’ houses or watching them play sport. I’m also a level 1 coach in both rugby and cricket and take great pleasure in watching youngsters develop and fulfil their sporting potential.

I believe that it’s a very exciting time in the dental profession with so many new treatments and laboratory advances taking place and hopefully our new website will give you a brief introduction as to what can nowadays be achieved.

Margaret Walton – Dental Hygienist

Hello, I am the Dental Hygienist here at Battle Hill Dental Practice.
I graduated in December 1993 from Newcastle School of Dental Hygiene where I was awarded with the British Dental Association Student Dental Hygienist of the year for 1993.
Before I graduated I was a Deputy Senior Dental Nurse at Newcastle Dental Hospital where I worked for 7 years.
I began my Dental Hygiene career working in a mixture of NHS and private practices and joined Battle Hill Dental Practice in February 1994.
My role as a Dental Hygienist is to complement the work of the Dentist by working closely with him and our patients to encourage and promote excellent oral health.
This is achieved by undertaking gum treatments, scaling and polishing and giving instructions in the most effective methods of plaque control.
Prevention is the key to a healthy smile and our aim here at Battle Hill Dental Practice is to ensure that we take good care of your smile.
Outside of work I enjoy playing golf, going camping, walking and going to the gym.

Lesley Kell

Receptionist

I joined the practice in February 1998 after taking time off to have a family. My previous job was working as a correspondent in a large export company so working with the public was a complete change for me. I started in a part time position but very quickly took on the role full time.

As a receptionist I always have a warm and friendly welcome for all our patients and will happily answer any questions or dispel any anxieties. I have worked with the same members of staff for most of my time here and we are all very close friends both in and out of work. At weekends I enjoy walking with my family in the countryside and especially along the Roman Wall. I am also an avid reader. I hope the practice continues to grow and that I can continue to be part of such a happy and successful team..

Helen Hindmarch – Dental Nurse

Dental Nurse

I have returned to work at Battle Hill Dental Practice as a Dental Nurse having left to start a family in 2004. I previously worked here for 16 years before leaving to have my first child. I then returned part time and finally left to raise my growing family, 1 daughter and twin boys.

I qualified as a Dental Surgery Assistant in November 1994, but since returning to work new rules and regulations enforced me to re-do the whole course again. I enjoyed doing this as it brought me back up to speed with what my job entails. Having passed both a written exam and an O.S.C.E (objective structured clinical examination) in February 2013. I can now happily say I’m a fully qualified Dental Nurse again, holding the National Diploma in Dental Nursing.

Now I am qualified again as part of the GDC regulations I have to continually learn and keep up to date with training on specific topics. I do this by going on courses, reading Dental journals and topics online I also read any general dental information that comes into the practice.
I currently work part time, job sharing with Jill. My main role in the practice is to chair side assist Richard, making sure the patient is kept comfortable throughout any dental procedure.
In between work and looking after my family any time off I have I enjoy going away with my family with our caravan visiting the Northumberland coastal villages, Bamburgh being our favourite- theres no nicer place!
Having worked at this practice from 16 years of age I feel very settled and happy in my job, we are a great team and I hope to spend many more years working here. I am proud to work here knowing how we all really care for our patients.
